What is the correct pronunciation of the indefinite article "a" and of the definite article "the"?

"a" is pronouced with a long vowel "ay", and "the" is also pronounced with the long vowel "ee".

After dropping the glass of milk, Jill's mother scolded her with such asperity that she started to cry.

This is a great blog, and so necessary. English gets butchered on a daily basis...I could go on and on. It's good to see that a former teacher of mine is still a great educator! Well done!
